Rock Creek Residents Need to Know

Summer is outdoor grilling time in the United States and SERVPRO® of Twin Falls & Jerome Counties wants everyone to have a safe and fun time grilling this season. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 61 percent of Americans own a gas barbeque. It is important to check propane grills for leaks before using them for the first time each year. Here are some tips from the NFPA to help you determine if your gas tank hose has a leak:

  • Apply a light soap and water solution to the hose. A propane leak will release bubbles.

·      If your grill has a gas leak, by smell or the soapy bubble test, and there is no flame, turn off both the gas tank and the grill

·      If the leak stops, get the grill serviced by a professional before using it again

·      If the leak does not stop, call the fire department

·      If you smell gas while cooking, immediately get away from the grill and call the fire department. Do not move the grill.

If the flame goes out, turn off the grill and gas and wait at least five minutes before re-lighting it.
